Torres Martinez Tribal TANF Goals

  1. To end dependence of needy parents by developing and promoting program services, assistance and activities that will support their efforts with: job preparation; work opportunities; personal growth; wellness; and stable, healthy marriages and families. 
  1. To reduce and prevent welfare dependency of future generations of Indian people by working with TANF and other eligible American Indian Youth to: promote education; support educational achievement; encourage career exploration and planning; develop fundamental workplace ethics; promote healthy choices and personal responsibility; and provide drug-free recreational activities as incentives for regular participation and achievement in educational and work/career readiness activities.
  1. Provide assistance in the form of monthly financial grants to all eligible families referred from the State TANF (Cal Works/Gain) program and all eligible families who apply for assistance that reside within the designated service delivery area.
  1. To promote the involvement of Indian Parents in their child’s education and after-school activities that will encourage, support and promote positive reinforcement of actions and behaviors on the part of the child that will lead to the development of personally responsible adults.
  1. To prevent and reduce out-of-wedlock pregnancies by providing qualified counseling services, activities that provide positive peer influence and relevant information to American Indian youth regarding teen pregnancy, healthy choices and personal responsibility. 
  1. To encourage the formation and maintenance of two-parent Indian  families by providing opportunities for parents to learn multiple skills that will assist them in developing and maintaining positive, healthy relationships, stable environments for their children; coping with demands of modern families; maintaining traditional values and parenting skills and sponsoring  activities that provide alternative drug-free recreational opportunities.
